Bagless Technology

In principle, the bagless mechanism that Miele uses in the CX1 is similar to those of other competing models.

The only major difference comes from the Vortex technology that can create airflow with an extremely-high velocity of up to 100km/h. This enables the centrifugal force to separate the debris and dirt from the airflow and then fine dust from large particles with ease.

Some other manufacturers have also used the same approach under other names such as Cyclonic technology, and all of them appear to make a noticeable difference in how much dirt the vacuum can pick up.

Suction

Like all models in the CX1 series, the Turbo Team version uses a 1200W Vortex motor, which has unique aerodynamic fans to create an efficient and optimum airflow.

This high power is a great addition to the advanced bagless technology and well-designed attachments, resulting in an efficient vacuuming system that can achieve suction of 400AW. This makes the entire CX1 lineup one of the most powerful and best rated vacuum cleaners overall.

Cleaner Heads

This Miele bagless vacuum comes with two floorheads (as Miele calls them) - the TurborTeQ and the Parquet Floor Brush.

Designed for low and medium-pile carpets, the brushroll of the TurboTeQ floorhead has stiff bristles, which means they can pick up pet hair and threads pretty well. However please keep in mind that this brushroll is not motorized but air-driven. While this choice makes the whole floorhead lighter, it also means you get a weaker brushroll compared to motorized units.

As a result, the CX1 is not the best choice if you want to deep clean your carpets as it easily gets bogged down on high piles. For this type of surface, you may need the CX1 Electro+ instead of the CX1 Turbo Team. On top of that, pet hair may also pile up quickly on the brushroll and require you to clean it regularly.

But at the same time, this TurboTeQ floorhead is equipped with many rubberized wheels to help you move the machine across a delicate floor without damaging or scratching it. On top of this attachment, you can also find a dial that acts like a suction release valve. You can keep it close to set the suction to the maximum value or open it to lower the suction down to any value you want.

On the other hand, the more-gentle Parquet floor brush is supposed to be used on smooth surfaces with the bristles made from both natural hair and polyamide. It makes the vacuum glide across your floor easily as the cleaner head turns with just a small twist of your wrist, enabling it to adapt to the layout of your furniture and flooring. To make it even more maneuverable, the neck of this floorhead has a double swivel so you can lay it practically flat under your low furniture.

You can attach those floor heads to the hose via the telescopic wand, which can be adjusted and locked in to help you have comfort in the cleaning position.

Canister

The CX1 Turbo Team has a 2.1-quart bottom-empty dust canister, which you can open and remove from the main body with a single touch of the yellow button on the back. The debris and dirt on the canister will then fall out into the waste bin without creating a mess in your kitchen. You can even wash it with some soap in case it becomes too dirty.

Emptying the CX1 is easy to do

A cloud of dust is a common thing when people empty other bagless vacuums, prompting them to carefully empty their vacuum with a plastic bag. But this is not the case with the Miele CX1. All the fine dust is kept in the dust filter, and the canister is now left only with larger pieces of debris, so you can even empty this bagless vacuum indoors without worrying about any fine dust.

Filtration System

The CX1 series is known for its high-grade multi-stage filtration system, which includes three separate filters: GORE CleanStream fine dust filter, Hygiene pre-filter, and HEPA AirClean post-filter.

Most other vacuums, even the premium models, usually come with a two-stage filtration system that has a pre-motor and a post-motor filter, and that's why this GORE CleanStream dust filter is unique and makes the CX1 interesting. Unlike traditional vacuums that trap fine dust in the same main canister with other debris, this filter keeps it in a separate container, so you won't see a big cloud of dust when emptying the machine.

The best part about it is the automatic cleaning system - ComfortClean. It keeps an eye on the airflow going through the dust filter, and when the pressure drops below a specific level, it will trigger the filter cleaning program. After 20 seconds, your filter is now clean and ready to work again.

You can also start this cleaning process in a manual way with the ComfortClean button on the body. This mechanism doesn't only make the filter cleaner but also improves the efficiency of the whole filtration process.

But keep in mind that this automatic system doesn't eliminate the need to manually clean the filter regularly (the perfect period between the cleanups is 6 or 12 months). You can rinse this CleanStream filter with water to clean it. This also applies to all the three filters in the CX1, which are also able to last the whole lifetime of the main machine. Just remember not to use any soap, or you may need to replace them.

The Hygiene pre-filter is placed inside the fine dust container to trap ultra-fine dust while the HEPA AirClean post-filter is designed to remove most small allergens and other harmful particles. It can get rid of most dust mites, cigarette smoke, asbestos, pet dander, bacteria, pollen, and mold in the air.

Accessories

Like other versions in the CX1 series, the Turbo Team comes with three additional attachments: the cleaning wand, the crevice tool, and the dusting brush. But you can also purchase other tools separately from Miele for your cleaning needs.

Cleaning Reach

While most manufacturers provide the length of their vacuum's power cords, Miele always reports the cleaning reach, which means the overall reach that you can achieve with their machines. You can think of this value as the sum of the telescopic wand, the hose, and the power cord.

In the CX1, the cleaning reach is 33 feet, which helps us figure out the length of the power cord is around 21 feet. This is a bit short compared to other vacuums, but Miele makes up for this with the ability to retract the cord automatically - not something every vacuum has. Just push the foot button, and the CX1 will retract within a few seconds.

Other Features

The CX1 has been praised for how smoothly it moves across the floor, and the main reason behind it is the DynamicDrive wheels. Mounted on axles under the main body, they are four wheels that can swivel 360 degrees and even absorb shocks. Don't worry about them scuffing or scraping your delicate floors since they have been rubberized as well.

This canister vacuum is pretty heavy at 19 pounds, but Miele has equipped it with a built-in handle so you can carry it upstairs or between rooms easier.

In addition to that, the Vortex motor is also protected from overheating thanks to the temperature limiter that will shut it down automatically every time the temperature reaches a critical level. This ensures the motor has a longer lifespan than if you let it run at hot temperatures constantly.

Usability

Miele has done a great job of making the Blizzard CX1 easy to use and maneuver.

The controls on this vacuum are readily accessible. You can turn on or turn off the brush with the buttons on the handle to adjust the vacuuming power quickly while the rotary dial allows you to quickly switch the suction between 4 modes. There is nothing complicated to do when you need to rewind the power cord as well; just tap the button with your foot.

Additionally, the handle is comfortable to hold as it has an ergonomic design. With a swivel mechanism, this handle makes sure that you can maneuver the machine around obstacles while cleaning your room.

Made from stainless steel, the sturdy telescopic wand is adjustable so you can set it to the height you prefer. And if you need to take a break during your cleaning session, there is no need to lean the CX1 against the wall. This canister vacuum can stand on its own for storage or parking when you hook the floorhead to the side of the machine.

As we have mentioned before, emptying the CX1 won't create any messy cloud of dust either. This is a common issue for most bagless vacuums, especially for those who suffer from allergies. All you need to do is to push the Empty button, and the canister will open itself to dump the dirt out.

Noise

One of the most impressive things about the CX1 is the low level of noise it produces, given its powerful 1200W motor. You might expect it to be a loud machine, but in fact, this Miele vacuum is one of the quietest models you can buy right now.

The design does an excellent job in muffling the noise of the airflow and the motor by driving the air through only a mono-cyclone instead of several directions - the approach used in a lot of vacuums. This innovative mechanism doesn't only reduce the noise level but also increase the suction power.

Alternatives

The Turbo Team is the main object of this review and is also considered the standard version in the CX1 series. But which Miele canister vacuum is the best if you are mostly happy with the Turbo Team and just need something more about it. There are some other options to consider.

#1- Miele Compact C1 Pure Suction

This is the cheaper bagged vacuum from Miele that is designed to mainly work with low-pile carpets and hard floors. Even though it has a lower price tag, the Pure Suction offers all the basic features a typical user needs for a cleanup. You can find more about it in our Miele Compact C1 review.

#2- Miele CX1 Electro

This is a high-end vacuum with a motorized brush roll that can handle all kinds of carpeted surfaces. Miele calls this attachment the Electro Plus, which is powered separately and more powerful than a typical spinning brushroll. You can deep clean your thick carpets with ease, just like an upright model while keeping all the advantages of a powerful canister.

#3- Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog Powerline

It's not difficult to guess the purpose of this CX1 version. It comes with the Handheld Mini Turbo brush that performs incredibly well with pet hair in all types of surfaces. On top of that, it also features the Electro Plus brush to pick up deeply-imprinted dirt from your carpets.

Final Verdict

Our Miele Blizzard CX1 review has shown that Miele didn't disappoint us with its new bagless vacuum series. Even though it doesn’t come with plenty of extra tools like some other models, the Miele CX1 is an efficient tool that works well with hard floors and low-pile carpets. Unless your house is filled with thick carpeted-surfaces, there is nothing much to complain about this canister vacuum.
